[Background]

[Personality]
On the surface, Albert Maverick is the kind and fatherly figure to the orphaned hero Barnaby Brooks Jr., President and CEO of Apollon Media and creator of Hero TV: which is a television station dedicated to the NEXT-powered heroes and heroines who protect the city of Sternbild and its citizens. the one who took him in and groomed him into being the hero he is today. He is also seems to have a lot of power and influence in the city of Sternbild, given that he gives advice to its mayor and, at times, the one who controls the city when the mayor can’t. At times, he shows that he cares about the heroes themselves and is the one Barnaby trusts comes to talk about his troubles and emotions. Overall, it seems that he genuinely cares about the city, the citizens, the heroes, and Barnaby.

However, under the surface, Maverick is anything but. He is very manipulative and would do anything to promote Hero TV, even if it mean staging crimes and endangering the lives of innocent people. He also doesn’t care about the heroes themselves and would easily dispose of them once they have outlived their purpose to him. All he cares about is the ratings and how he can promote Hero TV. Nothing more and nothing less. Also, he was the one who killed Barnaby’s parents and used his powers to alter his memories of the event to hide his crime, knowingly causing Barnaby distress but not caring as long as it kept Barnaby from remembering the truth. This is why he keeps up the facade of being this humble old fatherly person, to hide his true intentions and his secrets. If there is even a hint of someone finding out his plans or if the memories he implanted in Barnaby are cracking, then he would use his powers to replace those memories or implant new ones to throw them off. If the person is a huge threat or he just doesn’t feel like using his powers on them to replace their memories he just simply has them killed. And he does it with ease and with no remorse. It is just business and survival to Maverick.

Even though it is a front, one of his strengths is to be able to pretend to care about those around him and using and exploiting their trust, their emotions, and their feelings to further his own agenda. Because of who he is, which is this trustworthy and powerful figure, and how he acts, no one suspects him of any wrongdoing or just brushes it off stating that Maverick knows what he is doing.

He honestly believes that all he has done from the time Hero TV was created to now is completely justified. From staging the crimes and making them flashy when the show was doing poorly to draw more people into watching. To killing his best friends, Barnaby’s parents, to keep the staged crimes a secret and to keep himself from going to jail. To altering the memories of their four-year old son to hide his crime and place him on a wild goose chase of vengeance and grooming him to be a hero. All of this is justified to Maverick. Without Hero TV, NEXTs would still be seen by the populace as pariahs and monsters to fear and hate. Normal humans were afraid and prejudiced against the NEXTs when they appeared and he wanted to show that the NEXTs were nothing to fear and could use their powers for good and for profit for their sponsers. He did this all for the sake of NEXTs like himself and for the city at large since after Hero TV’s popularity grew, the city grew. That is why he created Hero TV. However, over the years, it seems that he has lost the whole "sake of NEXTs and the citizens" mindset and only cares about his show, keeping the public and the heroes in the dark, and gaining power. But he does still have a warped sense of justice, since he believes that for justice to shine, you need despair. And if he needs to cause that despair for justice to shine, then so be it.

Maverick is an excellent businessman and an excellent planner as well. However, under pressure, he will panic when a plan goes wrong and hastily create another one even though it could fall apart. This is one of his many weaknesses. He is impulsive and reckless when his plans all fall apart or when something doesn't go just right in his plans. But he will try to make that weak plan work and make it work well. His powers also create a weakness as they only alter memories and even the slightest contradiction will cause the person to remember and thus he must try to keep any and all contradictory evidence away from that person lest his powers will fail.
